Your child is unique. So is their class.
Just as no two children are alike, each bina class is tailored to fit the individual students. We work from some core class structures, but may change the content to meet the needs and interests of each group of kids. Here are some of the courses we've offered in the past.
What on Earth Are We Doing - Advanced Readers
Do you wonder why the Earth is such a great place for humans to live? And how come we haven’t discovered life on other planets (yet)?
In this course, you will conduct experiments to understand how the Earth works and learn about the ways that humans’ actions have enhanced and damaged the Earth’s natural state. You will talk with experts from around the globe to learn how they develop ways to monitor and address problems in the environment. Each week you will share the results of your research with your fellow scientists, as you develop a plan for how we can all contribute to a healthy planet.
Through fun, interactive activities, students will develop concrete skills in reading, writing, humanities, social studies, science, and math. The course culminates with students preparing a research paper on changes to specific ecosystems, which they will share with the bina community.
Exploring Magical Lands - Developing Readers
Did you know there is an ancient Chinese version of Cinderella? Can you imagine that the antics of Zeus will teach us about modern science and mathematics?
In this course, you will discover the themes that bind these colorful stories together and dive into the cultural foundations that make each story unique. You will explore mythical lands and the creatures that inhabit them, learning about the adventures, perils, and triumphs that make these stories so special. You will map, measure, and navigate worlds both real and imagined. Each week you will create and illustrate your own fairy tale!
Through fun, interactive activities, students will develop concrete skills in reading, writing, humanities, social studies, science, and math. The course culminates with students collaboratively designing a mythical world and presenting their creations to the bina community.
Kidz News - Emerging Readers
Have you ever wanted to be a reporter, traveling the world to discover unusual and exciting stories?
As part of the Kidz News team, you will report — virtually — from every corner of the globe and you will report — actually — from your house, your backyard, and your neighborhood. You will report on important historical figures, such as Pierre de Coubertin, who founded the Olympics and Rosa Parks, who catalyzed a movement for civil rights. You will explore the many ways that people care for your community and how you can contribute. You will be exploring and also making: everything from meditative mandalas to maps to marble mazes. Each week we will write and make videos of our own news stories!
Through fun, interactive activities, students will develop concrete skills in reading, writing, humanities, social studies, science, and math. The course culminates with students collaboratively designing a news program and presenting it to the bina community.
