Foundational literacy and numeracy

Summer camp modules are fun, engaging classes for children to expand their minds and build friendships. They are also unique, meaning you can take all 6 throughout the summer!

Children aged 4-6 are in a pivotal stage of both intellectual and social-emotional development.

They are developing early literacy, numeracy, and phonics skills as well as their understanding of stories and constructing narratives.

Master teachers

All bina teachers have at least 8 years of experience, possess an advanced degree, and are experts in designing and teaching digital lessons. Our teachers are like our students: they come from all corners of the globe and are great at engaging students of different cultures and nationalities.

Learning goals

Students will:

  • Ask key details of a story such as Who What When Where How and Why
  • Recount stories and folktales from diverse cultures and determine their central message, lesson or moral
  • Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges
  • Describe the overall structure of a story how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action
  • Gather information from a story to gain understanding of its characters, setting or plot
  • Compare similarities and differences between two versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella by different authors or from different cultures)

Example module

Fairy Tales and the Imagination In this module students will explore questions such as:

  • What are the similarities/differences between my family and families from other cultures?
  • What can we deduce about the similarities and what can we learn from the differences?
  • What are the common needs and wants of people?
  • How and what do we celebrate?
  • What are the customs and rules people follow and why?
